Chilancho (used to be called 'Jagat Pal Maha Vihar') is a stupa located on the top-eastern side of the hill. The word 'Chilancho' is made up of two words: 'Chilan' and 'Cho:', Chilan meaning 'immortal' and Cho meaning 'Hill'.

It is one of the oldest monument in Kirtipur. It is believed that the foundation of the stupa goes back to the time of Mauryan Emperor Ashoka, which makes it about twenty three hundred years old. The structural layout and design of the stupa is quite astonishing, where the main stupa is situated on the center surrounded by multiple smaller stupas, a monastery (Maha Vihar) on the south and residential houses on all directions.
